There are different types of insurance that provides coverage for different things like life, auto, health and dental insurance. Dental insurance is basically the insurance policy that provides coverage for dental care and the treatment of different dental diseases. The basic dental insurance policy is one where the insurance company provides coverage for some routine dental processes like regular check ups and x-rays. These policies are drafted by profit based companies so that it is possible to process payment claims for all the dental services provided. There are different types of dental insurance plans which are basically group dental insurance provided by the employer and individual dental insurance.
It is the individual dental insurance plan that is more expensive than a group dental plan. Moreover, it is also faster to get a group dental insurance plan than an individual dental insurance plan as individual insurance plans come with waiting periods. This is why it is usually better to opt for a discount dental plan, when choosing an individual dental insurance plan. This is because discount dental plans have no waiting periods and are cheaper than dental insurance.
With a discount dental insurance plan, the insured is offered a fee schedule for all the dental procedures that are done by the dentists who are a part of the discount dentist insurance network. With a discount dental insurance plan, it is possible to save lots on dental procedures that include the cleaning of the teeth, any required fillings, crowns that have to be made and root canals that may be needed. However, all these savings are possible only if the dentist is a participating dentist of the discount dental health plan.
When it comes to group dental insurance plans, there are the fee-for-service plan and managed care plan. The fee-for-service plan is one of the most expensive plans but is not applicable for emergency dental services and some procedures like aesthetic dentistry and implants. With the managed care plan, the patient can choose the dentist from a network of dentists. This is a less expensive dental health insurance plan; but due to the limited number of participating dentists, one may be compelled to change dentists on joining the plan.
